Google Releases Penguin 3.0 Update

Thursday 23 October 2014 | Neil

On Sunday afternoon Google announced that they have updated their Penguin algorithm. This will impacts SEO and natural search results and will affect the rankings of some sites on Google search. Penguin 3.0, is likely to have a greater impact on websites than the recent Panda update which affected 3-5% of searches.

Penguin 3.0 is built from the past Penguin updates and continues to focus on the use of links as a measurement for the authority of a site and as a ranking factor including penalising sites with link profiles Google deems "unnatural".

Some sites will see their rankings decline if they have been penalised in this update. Equally, some of those with past penalties will see their rankings - and more importantly, traffic levels - increase if the right level of link removal has been previously actioned and submitted through a disavow file sent to Google.

Other sites may see no impact, indicating they have not fallen foul of Google's linking policies and Penguin 3.0.
